Biographie

      Monique Thonnat est française et est née en 1957. Elle a reçu en 1980 le diplome d'ingénieur ENSPM et le DEA (Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies) Signaux et Systèmes Spatio-Temporels de l'Université de Marseille . En 1982 elle a obtenu  le diplôme  de Docteur-Ingénieur en Optique et Traitement du Signal de l'Université de Marseille III. Sa thèse a été préparée au  Laboratoire d'Astronomie Spatiale du C.N.R.S. (Sujet : Méthodes interactives de dépouillement de clichés astronomiques : restitution du fond et obtention de vites ses radiales).  Son Habilitation à diriger des Recherches s'intitule Vers une vision cognitive: mise en oeuvre de connaissances et de raisonnements pour l'analyse et l'interprétation d'images (Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis, octobre 2003).
En 1983 elle rentre à l'INRIA à Sophia Antipolis comme Chargée de recherche 1ère classe  dans le projet PASTIS dirigé par M. Berthod. Elle obtient le grade de Directeur de Recherche  en 1991 puis elle crée en 1992 l'action Orion  et en 1995 le projet Orion, une équipe de recherche pluridisciplinaire à la frontière des domaines de la vision par ordinateur, des systèmes à base de connaissances et du génie logiciel.
     Monique Thonnat a publié plus de 100 articles scientifiques dans des revues ou des conférences internationales.  Après des recherches en traitement d'images pour l'astronomie pendant 3 ans (de 1979 à 1982) au Laboratoire d'Astronomie  Spatiale du C.N.R.S. à Marseille, elle effectue à l'INRIA  des recherches en reconnaissance de formes et intelligence artificielle avec la construction notamment de systèmes automatiques pour la reconnaissance d'objets complexes (galaxies, zooplanctons, poissons),  des recherches en vision par ordinateur pour l'automatisation de l'interprétation de données stéréo tridimensionnelles pour des scènes d'intérieur (Orasis) et la détection d'obstacles en milieu routier (Prometheus). Elle a egalement effectué des recherches en vision par ordinateur et intelligence artificielle pour la construction de systèmes automatiques de traitement d'image. Elle a proposé d'utiliser des techniques de planification et de controle d'exécution (pilotage de programmes) pour la réutilisation de programmes en particulier
de bibliotheques de programmes de traitement d'images et d'analyse vidéos. Les dix dernieres années elle a focalisé son activité sur l'analyse temps-réel de vidéos et sur l'interprétation vidéo (analyse 3D, reconnaissance d'évènements et de scénarios) et leur applications en videosurveillance. Ses activités les plus récentes concernent les techniques de vision cognitive (ontologies pour la vision, apprentissage, catégorisation, controle intelligent,....).
    Monique Thonnat a encadré ou co-encadré 17 thèses de doctorat et elle encadre actuellement 5 thèses. Elle a une activité d'enseignement des techniques de vision par ordinateur et d'intelligence artificielle à l'université et dans les grandes écoles d'ingénieur.  Elle s'intéresse directement à l'application de ses recherches dans le milieu industriel, notamment dans le cadre de projets européens (Eureka Project PROMETHEUS, Esprit  Project PASSWORDS, Esprit Project AVS-PV, Esprit Project AVS-RTPW, Climate and Environment Project ASTHMA, IST Project ADVISOR, IST Project AVITRACK).  En 2005 elle a crée avec d'autres chercheurs d'Orion, Keeneo,  une jeune pousse spécialisée en videosurveillance pour industrialiser la plate-forme VSIP développée par le projet Orion ces dix dernieres années. Monique Thonnat est conseiller scientifique de Keeneo.
