Hepathic Surgery Simulation

Purpose and Definitions

We intend to create a Laparoscopic Surgery Simulator. Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive technique that makes use of long surgical instruments introduced into the abdomen through 1 cm holes.

To see inside the abdomen, the surgeon introduces an endoscope relayed to a camera, itself relayed to a screen. This technique allows in reduction in postoperative pain, hospitalization duration and costs. It also allows a more aesthetic result than the usual 20 to 80 cm scars of classic surgery.

The major limitation of this new technology is the learning of new operative motions. This problem may be solved by a computerized simulator. To be useful, this simulator will have to meet several criteria:
