TOURNESOL

Extracting multidimensional shapes (project Tournesol)

Project leader in Flanders : CUYT Annie, full professor in the team CANT at Universiteit Antwerpen

Project leader in France : HUBERT Evelyne, research scientist in the team GALAAD at Inria Sophia-Antipolis

Other members : B. Ali Ibrahimoglu (PhD-student), Mathieu Collowald (PhD-student), Wen-Shin Lee (postdoc researcher), Bernard Mourrain (research director), Sem Peelman (PhD-student), Irem Yaman (postdoc researcher)

Project description : We are working on the shape-from-moments problem : from measurement-like data, reconstructing a desired object. Since many years, this problem has been solved and optimized in the 2D-case thanks to the use of complex numbers. Thanks to a new formula, we want to stay in the real domain in order to generalize this problem to multidimensional shapes - in particular 3D-shapes.

Interest of the collaboration : Whereas the Galaad team is more interested in geometric and algebraic issues , the CANT team is more familiar with numerical and optimization issues. From this combination, we expect an effective algorithm for solving the multidimensional shape-from-moments problem.
