VADE-MECUM

The initiative of setting up a combined seminar is up to the members of research teams.
PhD students are strongly encouraged to initiate a seminar themselves.
The following is a short guide for setting up a combined seminar.

To start with, PhD students should make sure their profile in the FIDO database is up-to-date (ask your assistant).

Step 1: when the call for proposals is sent out, in September or October, identify a subject and some teams which could be interested to join. It may be helpful in this phase to consult the list of PhD students and thesis topics (cf "theses"), which is automatically generated from the FIDO database. You may then either contact the chosen teams directly or ask the CAS to help you choosing the potential speakers (to see how to contact the CAS, have a look to "CAS").

Step 2: contact the CAS to communicate your choice of teams and speakers, as well as your preferred dates (cf "calendar").

Step 3: once the planning is fixed, the CAS will ask the seminar initiator to send the titles and abstracts of the talks, as well as pictures and any other information which will be useful to prepare the poster for the seminar. Finally, the CAS takes care of all practical matters: announcements on mailing lists, room bookings, coffee breaks, and so on.

Step 4: enjoy your seminar!
