Marius George Linguraru

Since October 2004 I am employed as Postdoctoral Fellow by the Biorobotics Laboratory of Harvard University . I elaborated algorithms for the robust segmentation and tracking of instruments and tissue as part of my work in echocardiography for computer-assisted minimally invasive surgery and image-guided robotics surgery. I am funded by the American National Institute of Health under the grant NIH R01 HL073647-01. I was based at INRIA until February 2005 as visiting researcher to initiate a collaboration between Harvard and INRIA on cardiac ultrasound research. Please find my new location at Harvard below.

I moved to the South of France in January 2003 as Expert Engineer in the Epidaure Research Group of the National Institute of Research in Informatics and Automatic Control (INRIA), the Sophia Antipolis research unit. My research at INRIA was in the area of multi-modal brain MRI analysis with a special interest in the detection and characterisation of Creutzfeldt-Jakob diseases (GIS-Prions Project) and Multiple-sclerosis lesions. I developed the first automatic method that proves the effectiveness of MRI for the diagnosis of CJD, a technique under investigation in clinical centers in France and USA.

Between 1999 and 2002 I spent three years as a Scatcherd Scholar reading for a PhD in Information Engineering/Medical Image Analysis at the University of Oxford within the Medical Vision Laboratory. I was a member of Keble College. My PhD demonstrated that image-driven data increase the robustness of parametric algorithms and that methods modeling human vision have high sensitivity for image interpretation in the early detection of breast cancer. My thesis in pdf format)

My previous studies include an MSc in Parallel and Distributed Processing Systems, an MA in British Cultural Studies and a BSc in Computer Science. All three dregrees are from the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu, Romania, where I also worked as Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Automatic Control. Main area of research: Medical Informatics.

More about my past and experience in my Curriculum Vitae (in pdf format) and list of publications. Some of my papers can be downloaded here .
