This problem is due to a bug in Openwindow 3.5 (shipped with
Solaris 5.5) and is fixed by the patch 103210-06 (Jul/17/96)
furnished by Sun. You may retrieve it for example at the following

Product patches -> OpenWindows
An alternative is to use the X11R6 X server, but you will in this
case:
- lack the Display Postscript X extension
- not use optimaly new types of monitors like the TCX
