Résumé :
Dans ce travail, nous considérons le problème de la classification supervisée de texture à partir d'images multi-composante de télédetection, dites hyperspectrales. Ces images, le plus souvent acquises par des instruments spectro-imageurs dont le nombre de canaux est en général supérieur à 10, fournissent ainsi une représentation du paysage échantillonnée à la fois spatialement et spectralement. Le but de ce travail est de réaliser une analyse de texture qui se déroule conjointement dans ces deux espaces discrets. On recherche ainsi à enrichir la représentation "habituelle" de texture fondée sur la prise en compte des variations locales de contraste, par l'adjonction d'une connaissance sur ses variations spectrales. L'applicati- on qui est susceptible de bénéficier directement des résultats de cette étude est la classification du tissu urbain. En effet, la réponse spectrale (radiométrique) des zones urbaines est en général ambiguë du fait de la similitude de réponse spectrale de certains matériaux constitutifs du paysage urbain avec certains éléments naturels tels que l'eau, le sol nu, la végétation. La multiplication des bandes spectrales a pour conséquence de rendre plus complexes les mesures et demande également la prise en considération d'un nombre d'échantillons d'apprentissage très important. Quand le nombre de ces échantillons n'est pas suffisant, il faut passer par une étape de réduction de la dimension de l'espace d'observation. Pour prendre en compte le problème de la dimension et celui de l'analyse de texture conjointement dans le domaine spatial et spectral, on se propose ici de faire coopérer un algorithme de poursuite de projection paramétrique, déjà utilisé pour la réduction d'espace dans un cadre non-contextuel, à un modèle de texture par champ markovien, dit modèle markovien gaussien. |
Abstract :
In this work we develop a supervised texture classification algorithm for application to the class of multi-component images called hyperspectral. These images, usually recorded by spectrometers with a number of bands greater than 10, give both a spatially and spectrally sampled representation of a remote scene. The aim of this work is to perform a joint texture analysis in both discrete spaces. The use of spectral variations in this joint texture analysis scheme enables us to improve on the standard representa- tion of textures which only takes into account the local contrast variations. A likely application of this work is urban area classification. Indeed, the spectral response of urban areas is in general ambiguous because some of its constitutive elements have the same reflectance as natural elements such as water, vegetation or bare soil. The greater number of spectral bands makes the measures more complex and so creates the need for a greater number of training samples. When the number of training samples is not sufficient, a necessary step in the analysis is to reduce the dimension of the observation space. To take into account both the problem of dimensional- ity and the jointly spectral and spatial texture analysis, we propose to use in cooperation a projection pursuit algorithm and a Gauss-Markov random field texture model. |

Résumé :
L'imagerie Radar à Synthése d'Ouverture (RSO) a conduit à d'importantes applications, du fait de son avantage certain sur l'imagerie satellitaire optique (utilisation tout temps).Cependant, du fait de la physique du capteur RSO, les images produites présentent des artefacts non désirables, connus sous le nom de bruit de chatoiement. L'hypothèse que les parties réelles et qqimaginaires del'onde reçue suivent une loi Gaussienne (ce qui revient à dire que l'amplitude de l'onde suit une distribution de Rayleigh)découle des hypothèses classiquement faites sur le modèle de génération de l'image RSO.
Cependant, des données expérimentales présentent des charactéristiques impulsionnelles correspondant à des distributions à queue lourde sous-jascente- s, qui ne sont pas de type Rayleigh. D'autres distributions telles que les lois de Weibull ou log-normale ont été proposées. Cependant, dans la plupart des cas, ces modèles sont empiriques ne prenant pas, encompte la physique du capteur, et sont trop spécifiques.
Dans ce rapport, en relachant quelques hypothèses qui conduisent au modèle de Rayleigh et en utilisant des résultats récents publiés dans la littérature surles distributions $alpha$-stables, nous proposons une version généralisée (à queue lourde) du modèle de Rayleigh. Ceci est fondé sur l'hypothèse que les parties reélle et imaginaire du signal reçu suivent une loi $alpha$-s- table isotrope, suggérée par une généralisation du théorème central limite. Nous présentons également de nouvelles mèthodes d'estimation des paramètres d'une distribution de Rayleigh à queue lourde fondées sur des statistiques d'ordre fractionnaire négatif. Les tests expérimentaux montrent que le modèle de Rayleigh à queue lourde permet de décrire une grande variété de données qui ne pourraient pas être décrites defaçon satisfaisante par un modèle de Rayleigh classique. |
Abstract :
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery has found important applications since its introduction, due to its clear advantage over optical satellite imagery, being operable in various weather conditions. However, due to the physics of radar imaging process, sar images contain unwanted artefacts in the form of a granular look which is called speckle. the assumptions of the classical SAR image generation model lead to the convention that the real and imaginary parts of the received wave follow a Gaussian law, which in turn means that the amplitude of the wave has a Rayleigh distribution- . However, some experimental data show impulsive characteristics which correspond to underlying heavy-tailed distributions, clearly non-rayleigh. some alternative distributions have been suggested such as weibull and log-normal distributions, however, in most of the cases these models are empirical, not derived with the consideration of underlying physical conditions and therefore are case specific. In this report, relaxing some of the assumptions leading to the classical rayleigh model and using the recent results in the literature on $alpha$-stable distributions, we develop a generalised (heavy-tailed) version of the rayleigh model based on the assumption that the real and the imaginary parts of the received signal follows an isotropic $alpha$-stable law which is suggested by a generalised form of the central limit theorem. we also derive novel methods for the estimation of the heavy-tailed rayleigh distribution parameter- s based on negative fractional-order statistics for model fitting. our experimental results show that the heavy-tailed rayleigh model can describe a wide range of data which could not be described by the classical rayleigh model. |

Résumé :
Dans ce rapport, nous proposons deux modèles variationnels pour la classificat- ion d'images multibandes.
Le premier modèle présenté repose sur la minimisation d'une famille de critères dont la suite de solutions converge vers une partition des données composée de classes homogènes séparées par des contours réguliers.
Parallèlement à cette approche, nous avons développé un second modèle de classification mettant en jeu un ensemble de régions et contours actifs. Nous utilisons une approche par ensembles de niveaux pour définir le critère à minimiser. Le critère proposé contient des termes reliés à l'information sur les régions ainsi qu'à l'information sur les contours.
L'imagerie multispectrale permet de prendre en compte, et de combiner, l'information des différentes bandes spectrales renvoyée par un capteur satellitaire ou aérien. L'extension au cas multispectral intervient à des niveaux différents pour les deux modèles proposés dans ce rapport. Nous traitons une application réelle sur une scène SPOT en mode XS pour laquelle nous disposons d'une vérité terrain. Nous comparons les deux modèles variationnels que nous proposons à d'autres approches dont un modèle stochastique hiérarchique, récemment développé à l'IRISA au sein du projet VISTA. |
Abstract :
Herein, we propose two variational models for multiband image classification.
\The first model we propose herein is based on the minimization of a criterion family whose set of solutions is converging to a partition of the data set composed of homogeneous regions with regularized boundaries. The second model we propose is based on a set of active regions and contours. We use a level set formulation to define the criterion we want to minimize. Each class and its associated set of regions and boundaries is defined thanks to a level set function.
The extension of these two models to the multispectral case is presented in this report. The extension of the dynamic model is quite straightforward whereas the one of the first model is more tricky.
We have conducted experiments on SPOT XS data whose ground truth is given. We compare the results we obtain with other approaches, in particular we compare the proposed models to a stochastic hierarchical model recently developed within the VISTA group from IRISA. |

Résumé :
L'observation satellitaire en zone rurale et périurbaine fournit des images hyperspectrales exploitables en vue de réaliser une cartographie ou une analyse du paysage. Nous avons appliqué une classification par maximum de vraisemblance sur des images de zone agricole. Afin de régulariser la classification, nous considérons la modélisation d'image par champs de Markov, dont l'équivalence avec les champs de Gibbs nous permet d'utiliser plusieurs algorithmes itératifs d'optimisation : l'ICM et le recuit simulé, qui convergent respectivement vers une classification sous-optimale ou optimale pour une certaine énergie. Un modèle d'énergie est proposé : le modèle de Potts, que nous améliorons pour le rendre adaptatif aux classes présentes dans l'image. L'étude de la texture dans l'image initiale permet d'introduire des critères artificiels qui s'ajoutent à la radiométrie de l'image en vue d'améliorer la classification. Ceci permet de bien segmenter les zones périurbaines, la forêt, la campagne, dans le cadre d'un plan d'occupation des sols. Trois images hyperspectrales et une vérité terrain ont été utilisées pour réaliser des tests, afin de mettre en évidence les méthodes et le paramétrage adéquats pour obtenir les résultats les plus satisfaisants. |
Abstract :
Satellite observation in rural and semiurban areas provides hyperspectral images which enable us to make a map or an analysis of the landscape. Herein, we applied a maximum likelihood classification on agricultural images. In order to improve this procedure, it is possible in each pixel to use contextual information. Thus, we consider Markov random fields image modeling. The equivalence between Markov and Gibbs fields allows us to use some iterative algorithms of optimisation : ICM and simulated annealing, which converge respectively towards a suboptimal or an optimal classification for a given energy. An energy model is proposed : the Potts model, which can be improved to be adaptive to the classes defined in the image. Texture analysis on the initial image is used to introduce artificial criteria, added to the original image, in order to improve classification. This proves to be useful for segmenting semiurban regions, forests, and the countryside, within the framework of a land-use plan. We use three hyperspectral images and a ground truth to carry out tests, in order to highlight the best methods and parameter setting to obtain the most satisfactory results. |

Résumé :
La déconvolution des images satellitaires floues et bruitées est un problème inverse mal posé, qui peut être régularisé dans un cadre bayésien par l'utilisation d'un modèle a priori de la solution reconstruite. Les modèles de régularisation homogènes ne permettent pas d'obtenir des résultats parfaitement satisfaisants, car les images satellitaires ont des propriétés qui varient spatialement. Nous proposons d'utiliser un modèle inhomogène, et nous étudions différentes méthodes permettant d'estimer les paramètres adaptatifs. L'estimateur que nous avons retenu est le maximum de vraisemblance (MV). Nous montrons que cet estimateur, lorsqu'il est calculé à partir de l'image dégradée, est inutilisable pour la déconvolution d'images, car il n'est pas robuste au bruit. Nous montrons ensuite que l'estimation n'est correcte que si elle est effectuée sur l'image originale. Comme cette image est inconnue, nous devons en calculer une approximation, dont la qualité doit être suffisante pour que les résultats de l'estimation soient utiles pour la restauration. Nous détaillons finalement une méthode hybride, permettant d'estimer les paramètres adaptatifs à partir d'une image déconvoluée par un algorithme utilisant des ondelettes, afin de reconstruire l'image. Les résultats obtenus présentent à la fois des bords francs, des textures nettes, et un très bon rapport signal/bruit dans les zones homogènes, dans la mesure où la technique proposée s'adapte localement aux caractéristiques des données. Une comparaison avec des algorithmes concurrents linéaires et non linéaires est aussi effectuée, pour illustrer son efficacité. |
Abstract :
The deconvolution of blurred and noisy satellite images is an ill-posed inverse problem, which can be regularized within a Bayesian context by using an a priori model of the reconstructed solution. Homogeneous regularizat- ion models do not provide sufficiently satisfactory results, since real satellite data show spatially variant characteristics. We propose here to use an inhomogeneous model, and we study different methods to estimate its space-variant parameters. The chosen estimator is the Maximum Likelihood (ML). We show that this estimator, when computed on the corrupted image, is not suitable for image deconvolution, because it is not robust to noise. Then we show that the estimation is correct only if it is made from the original image. Since this image is unknown, we need to compute an approximati- on of sufficiently good quality to provide useful estimation results. Finally we detail an hybrid method used to estimate the space-variant parameters from an image deconvolved by a wavelet-based algorithm, in order to reconstruct the image. The obtained results simultaneously exhibit sharp edges, correctly restored textures and a high SNR in homogeneous areas, since the proposed technique adapts to the local characteristics of the data. A comparison with linear and non-linear concurrent algorithms is also presented to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method. |

Résumé :
Le but de cette étude est l'estimation des paramètres du bruit et de la fonction de flou en imagerie satellitaire. En effet, ces images sont dégradées par le système optique, et par un bruit additif lié au capteur. Les paramètres instrumentaux, connus lors du lancement du satellite, peuvent évoluer au cours du temps. Il est alors nécessaire de pouvoir les estimer à partir des images observées, afin de pouvoir corriger ces images, par déconvolution, dans les meilleures conditions. Le noyau de convolution est paramétré par une fonction traduisant la physique du système imageur étudié. Il s'agit d'estimer les paramètres du noyau, ainsi que la variance du bruit, qui est supposé blanc et gaussien. Pour la déconvolution à paramètre- s fixés, nous utilisons une approche variationnelle, qui consiste à minimiser une fonctionnelle traduisant l'attache aux données et la régularisation de l'image cherchée, interdisant l'amplification du bruit tout en préservant les contours. La méthode proposée repose essentiellement sur deux étapes. Le bruit est estimé en utilisant un filtre passe-bande au moyen d'une transformée en cosinus. Ensuite, l'estimation conjointe du paramètre de régularisation et des paramètres du noyau est effectuée par Maximum de Vraisemblance (MV), en utilisant une méthode de Monte Carlo par Chaînes de Markov (MCMC). Nous présentons également dans ce rapport un état de l'art des méthodes de déconvolution aveugle, ainsi qu'une étude sur l'estimati- on du noyau de convolution lorsqu'il n'est pas paramétré. |
Abstract :
The purpose of this study is the estimation of the parameters of the noise and the blur function in remote sensing. Indeed, satellite images are corrupted by the optical system and by an additive noise due to the sensor. The instrumental parameters, known at the lauch of the satellite, can evolve with time. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate them from the observed images, to enable the deconvolution of these images in the best conditions. The convolution kernel is parametrized by a function which describes the physics of the imaging system. We have to estimate the parameters of the kernel as well as the variance of the noise supposed to be white and Gaussian. For the deconvolution with fixed parameters, we use a variational approach which consists of minimizing a functional involving the data and the regularization of the solution, avoiding the amplification of the noise while preserving edges. The proposed method essentially consists of two steps. The noise is estimated using a bandpass filter using a Cosine transform. Then, the joint estimation of the regularizin- g parameter and the kernel parameters is achieved by computing the Maximum Likelihood (ML), using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method. We also present in this report the state of the art of blind deconvolution methods and a study of the estimation of the convolution kernel when it is not parametrized. |

Résumé :
La déconvolution des images satellitaires floues et bruitées est un problème inverse mal posé. L'inversion directe entraîne une amplification inacceptable du bruit. Généralement, soit le problème est régularisé lors de l'inversion, soit le bruit est filtré après déconvolution et décomposition dans le domaine de la transformée en ondelettes. Nous avons developpé dans ce rapport la deuxième solution, en seuillant les coefficients d'une nouvelle transformée en paquets d'ondelettes complexes, les fonctions de seuillage étant estimées de manière automatique. L'utilisation de paquets d'ondelettes complexes rend cette méthode invariante par translation, et tient compte des directions, tout en restant d'une complexité O(N). Les résultats obtenus présentent à la fois des textures nettes et un très bon rapport signal/bruit dans les zones homogènes. Par rapport aux algorithmes concurrents, la méthode que nous proposons est plus rapide, invariante par rotation, et tient compte de la directionnalité des détails et des textures de l'image pour mieux les restaurer. Les images déconvoluées de cette manière peuvent être utilisées telles quelles (la restauration peut être intégrée directement dans la chaîne d'acquisition). Mais elles peuvent également constituer le point de départ d'une méthode de régularisation adaptative, permettant d'obtenir des contours plus francs. |
Abstract :
The deconvolution of blurred and noisy satellite images is an ill-posed inverse problem. The direct inversion leads to unacceptable noise amplificatio- n. Usually, either the problem is regularized during the inversion process, or the noise is filtered after deconvolution and decomposition in the wavelet transform domain. Herein, we have developed the second solution, by thresholding the coefficients of a new complex wavelet packet transform; the thresholding functions are automatically estimated. The use of complex wavelet packets enables translation invariance, and takes into account the directions, while remaining of complexity O(N). The obtained results exhibit both correctly restored textures and a high SNR in homogeneous areas. Compared to concurrent algorithms, the proposed method is faster, rotation invariant and takes into account the directions of the details and textures of the image to restore them better. The images deconvolved this way can be used as they are (the restoration step proposed here can be directly inserted in the acquisition chain). But they also can provide a starting point of an adaptive regularization method, enabling one to obtain sharper edges. |

Résumé :
Dans ce rapport, nous présentons une méthode pour le recalage local d'un réseau cartographique routier sur une image SPOT, reposant sur l'utilisation des champs de Markov sur graphe. Les données image et cartographique étant obtenues par des sources exogènes, elles sont dégradées par du bruit de nature différente. Ce phénomène peut être à l'origine de différences important- es entre les données. De plus, les cartographes peuvent parfois introduire des distortions dans les cartes afin de souligner certains détails que presente la route (lacets d'une route de montagne) : c'est la généralisation. L'algorithme proposé vise à corriger les erreurs dues au bruit et à la généralisation, et à améliorer la précision du tracé des routes. La méthode proposée consiste à transformer la donnée cartographique en un graphe, et ensuite à définir un champ de Markov afin de faire correspondre le graphe et l'image. |
Abstract :
Herein, we propose a local registration method for cartographic road networks on SPOT satellite images based on Markov Random Fields (MRF) on graphs. Since the cartographic and image data are obtained from exogeneous sources, the noises degrading these data are of different nature. This phenomenon can create important differences between the data. In addition, cartographers sometimes introduce distortions, in the so-called generalization process, in the road map in order to emphasize some details of the road (like the bends of a mountain road). The proposed algorithm aims at correcting the error due to noise and generalization, hence increasing the accuracy of the road map. The proposed method consists in translating the cartographic data into a graph model, and then defining a MRF to fit the graph on the image. |

Résumé :
Nous proposons une nouvelle méthode pour extraire les routes dans les images satellitales et aériennes. Notre approche est basée sur la géométrie stochastique et les dynamiques MCMC à saut réversible. Nous considérons que le réseau routier est un réseau fin, et que ce réseau peut être approximé par des segments connectés. Nous construisons un processus ponctuel marqué qui peut simuler et détecter des réseaux fins. La densité de probabilité de ce processus comporte deux termes : le terme d'attache aux données et le terme a priori. Pour former un réseau, les segments doivent être connectés. Nous souhaitons que les segments soient bien alignés et qu'ils ne se superposent pas. Toutes ces contraintes sont prises en compte par le modèle a priori (Candy modèle). L'emplacement du réseau est donné par le terme d'attache aux données. Ce terme est construit à partir des tests d'hypothèses. Notre modèle probabiliste permet de construire le MAP de l'estimateur du réseau linéique. Pour éviter les minima locaux, nous utilisons un algorithme de type recuit simulé, construit sur une dynamique MCMC à sauts réversibles. Nous montrons des résultats sur des images SPOT, ERS et aériennes. |
Abstract :
In this paper we propose a new method to extract roads in remote sensed images. Our approach is based on stochastic geometry theory and reversible jump Monte Carlo Markov Chains dynamic. We consider that roads consist of a thin network in the image. We make the hypothesis that such a network can be approximated by a network composed of connected line segments. We build a marked point process, which is able to simulate and detect thin networks. The segments have to be connected, in order to form a line-netw- ork. Aligned segments are favored whereas superposition is penalized. Those constraints are taken in account by the prior model (Candy model), which is an area-interaction point process.The location of the network and the specifities of a road network in the image are given by the likelihood term. This term is based on statistical hypothesis tests. The proposed probabilistic model yelds a MAP estimator of the road network. In order to avoid local minima, a simulated annealing algorithm, using a reversible jump MCMC dynamic is designed. Results are shown on SPOT, ERS and aerial images. |

Nous considérons l'algorithme PMHT pour suivre la trajectoire de particules dans des détecteurs utilisés en physique des hautes énergies. Cet algorithme a récemment été développé pour suivre des cibles multiples dans un environneme- nt encombré. Il est fondé sur l'estimateur du maximum de vraisemblance, et s'appuie sur un algorithme de type EM. L'algorithme résultant correspond à l'utilisation en parallèle de plusieurs filtres de Kalman itératifs couplés. Il est proche de l'algorithme EA, mais il est de plus capable de prendre en compte le bruit associé au processus, comme par exemple la diffusion de Coulomb multiple. Dans ce rapport, nous présentons les propriétés classiques d'un tel algorithme et proposons une généralisation incluant un recuit déterministe. Nous proposons également plusieurs modificati- ons améliorant les performances de cet algorithme. En particulier, nous avons modifié les probabilités reliant les événements élémentaires aux trajectoires afin d'obtenir une compétition entre ces événements dans une même couche du détecteur. Enfin, nous présentons des résultats obtenus sur des simulations réalisées à partir du détecteur ATLAS (TRT). Résumé :
Dans ce rapport, nous présentons un modèle de classification supervisée basé sur une approche variationnelle. Nous souhaitons obtenir une partition optimale de l'image constituée de classes homogènes séparées par des interface- s régulières. Pour cela, nous représentons les régions définies par les classes ainsi que leurs interfaces par des fonctions d'ensembles de niveaux. Nous définissons une fonctionnelle sur ces ensembles de niveaux dont le minimum est une partition optimale. Les Equations aux Dérivées Partielles (EDP) relatives à la minimisation de la fonctionnelle sont couplées et plongées dans une schéma dynamique. En fixant un ensemble de niveaux initial, les différents termes des EDP guident l'évolution des interfaces (ensembles de niveaux zéro) vers les frontières de la partition optimale, par le biais de forces internes (régularité de l'interface) et externes (attache aux données et pas de chevauchement des régions ni de vide dans la partition). Nous avons effectué de nombreux tests sur des images synthétiques ainsi que sur des images réelles. |
Abstract :
This report presents a supervised classification model based on a variational approach. This model is devoted to find an optimal partition compound of homogeneous classes with regular interfaces. We represent the regions of the image defined by the classes and their interfaces by level set functions, and we define a functional whose minimum is an optimal partition. The coupled Partial Differential Equations (PDE) related to the minimization of the functional are considered through a dynamical scheme. Given an initial interface set (zero level set), the different terms of the PDE's are governing the motion of interfaces such that, at convergence, we get an optimal partition as defined above. Each interface is guided by internal forces (regularity of the interface), and external ones (data term, no vacuum, no regions overlapping). We conducted several experiments on both synthetic an real images. |

Résumé :
Ce rapport présente une méthode paramétrique permettant de faire de l'indexati- on et de la recherche dans une base de données multimédia. L'indexation (étiquetage) et la recherche de données multimédia sont réalisées grâce à la modélisation paramétrique de textures qui se trouvent dans les images de la base de données. Les textures sont caracterisées par des paramètres qui servent d'indices pour la recherche dans la base de données. Afin de pouvoir identifier les différentes régions texturées d'une image et estimer les paramètres correspondants, un algorithme de segmentation-estimatio- n est proposé dans ce rapport, qui fait appel à une décomposition de Wold 2D pour le modèle de texture et à un modèle markovien pour l'étiquetage. L'indexation nécessite de définir une distance entre les images. Une nouvelle distance, inspirée de la distance de Kullback, est décrite dans ce rapport. Elle utilise les paramètres estimés correspondants au modèle 2D de chaque texture. Les résultats obtenus relativement à la segmentation et à l'indexatio- n sont proches de ceux obtenus par un opérateur humain. |
Abstract :
This paper presents a parametric method for indexing and retrieval of multimedia data in digital libraries. %Indexing (labeling) and retrieval %of multimedia data, based on the properties %of the imagery components of the stored data record, are derived. Indexing (labeling) and retrieval of the multimedia data are performed using parametric modeling of the textured segments found in the data imagery components. The estimated parametric models of the textured segments serve as their indices, and hence as indices of the entire image, as well as of the multimedia record which the image is part thereof. To achieve the ability to identify textured image regions and estimate their parameters, a joint segmentation-estimation algorithm that combines the 2-D Wold decomposition based texture model with a Markovian labeling process, is derived. Ordering and indexing of images require a definition of a distance measure between images. Using the framework of the Kullback distance between probability distributions, a new rigorous distance measure between textures is derived. The distance between any two textured image segments is evaluated using their estimated parametric models. The proposed segmentation, distance evaluation, and indexing methods are shown to produce comparable results to those obtained by a human viewer. |

Résumé :
Dans ce rapport nous présentons un modèle variationnel destiné à la classification d'images avec processus de régularisation préservant les contours. La notion de classification étant par nature discrète (i.e. attribuer un label à chaque pixel de l'image), il existe de nombreux modèles de classification par approche probabiliste, mais les modèles variationnels abordant ce sujet sont rares. Ces dernières années, l'approche variationnelle a montré sont efficacité dans le cadre de la restauration d'images avec prise en compte des discontinuités. Dans ce travail, nous ajoutons un processus de classification permettant d'obtenir une solution formée de régions homogènes dont les frontières sont régulières (une région étant définie par l'ensemble des pixels appartenant à la même classe). La justification théorique de notre modèle repose sur les travaux effectués dans le cadre des problèmes de transitions de phases en mécanique. L'algorithme que nous proposons est relativement rapide et facile à mettre en oeuvre. Nous comparons les résultats obtenus sur des images synthétiques et satellitaires avec ceux produits par un modèle stochastique avec régularisation de Potts. |
Abstract :
Herein, we present a variational model devoted to image classification coupled with an edge-preserving regularization process. The discrete nature of classification (i.e. to attribute a label to each pixel) has ledto the development of many probabilistic image classification models, but rarely to variational ones. In the last decade, the variational approach has proven its efficiency in the field of edge-preserving restoration. In this paper we add a classification capability which contributes to provide images compound of homogeneous regions with regularized boundaries, a region being defined as a set of pixels belonging to the same class. The soundness of our model is based on the works developed on the phase transitions theory in mechanics. The proposed algorithm is fast, easy to implement, and efficient. We compare our results on both synthetic and satellite images with the ones obtained by a stochastic model using a Potts regularization. |

Résumé :
Nous considérons le problème de la mise en correspondance du réseau routier extrait d'une image SPOT avec celui fourni par une base de données cartographi- que. Cette mise en correspondance comprend deux étapes principales fondées sur des modélisations markoviennes. Dans la première étape, les pixels de l'image sont appariés aux segments cartographiques. Le résultat de cette étape permet de découper le réseau obtenu sur l'image sous forme de chaînes. Ces chaînes sont ensuite mises en correspondance avec les segments cartographiques. Pour finir, une étape de qualification des résultats permet de fournir les primitives fiables afin d'affiner le recalage initial. En bouclant l'algorithme sur la mise en correspondance nous obtenons un processus itératif permettant d'améliorer à la fois le recalage et la mise en correspondance. La qualification automatique des résultats est également une aide à l'interprétation pour la mise à jour cartographique. |
Abstract :
We consider herein the matching problem between the road network extracted from a SPOT image and the roads contained in a cartographic database. This matching consists of two main steps based on a Markovian modelling. During the first step, the image road pixels are associated to the map segments. the derived result allows us to split the image network into chains. These chains are matched with the map segments. Finally, an automatic validation procedure provides matched chains/segments which are used to improve the initial registration. An iterative scheme is obtained by performin- g a new matching. The automatic result validation is also helpful for map updating. |

Le problème que nous abordons ici est la déconvolution d'images satellitaires, qui sont dégradées par l'optique et l'électronique utilisées pour leur acquisition. Les dégradations sont connues : les images sont convoluées par un opérateur H, et la variance du bruit N additif, blanc et gaussien, est connue. Nous utilisons un modèle de régularisation introduisant une fonction de potentiel phi, qui interdit l'amplification du bruit lors de la restauration tout en préservant les discontinuités. Ce modèle admet deux hyperparamètres lambda et delta. Nous nous intéressons ici à l'estimation des hyperparamètres optimaux afin d'effectuer la déconvolution de manière automatique. Nous proposons pour cela d'utiliser l'estimateur du maximum de vraisemblance appliqué à l'image observée. Cet estimateur constitue le critère que nous allons optimiser. Pour évaluer ses dérivées, nous devons estimer des espérances calculées sur des échantillon- s, tenant compte des données observées et de l'a priori imposé. Cette probabilité faisant intervenir l'opérateur de convolution, il est très difficile d'utiliser un échantillonneur classique. Nous avons développé un algorithme de type Geman-Yang modifié, utilisant une variable auxiliaire, ainsi qu'une transformée en cosinus. Nous présentons à cette occasion un nouvel algorithme de déconvolution, rapide, qui est dérivé de cette méthode d'échantillonnage. Nous proposons un algorithme "MCMCML" permettant d'effectuer simultanément l'estimation des hyperparamètres lambda et delta et la restauration de l'image dégradée. Une étude des échantillonneurs (y compris ceux de Gibbs et Metropolis), portant sur la vitesse de convergence et les difficultés de calcul liées à l'attache aux données, a également été réalisée. |
Abstract :
This report deals with satellite image restoration. These images are corrupted by an optical blur and electronic noise, due to the physics of the sensors. The degradation model is known : blurring is modeled by convolution, with a linear operator H, and the noise is supposed to be additive, white and Gaussian, with a known variance. The recovery problem is ill-posed and therefore must be regularized. We use a regularization model which introduces a phi function, which avoids noise amplification while preserving image discontinuities (ie. edges) of the restored image. This model exhibits two hyperparameters (lambda and delta). Our goal is to estimate the optimal parameters in order to reconstruct images automatically. Herein, we propose to use the Maximum Likelihood estimator, applied to the observed image. To optimize this criterion, we must estimate expectations by sampling (samples are extracted from a Markov chain) to evaluate its derivatives. These samples are images whose probability takes into account the convolution operator. Thus, it is very difficult to obtain them directly by using a standard sampler. We have developped a modified Geman-Yang algorithm, using an auxiliary variable and a cosine transform. We also present a new reconstruc- tion method based on this sampling algorithm. We detail the MCMCML algorithm which ables to simultaneously estimate lambda and delta parameters, and to reconstruct the corrupted image. An experimental study of samplers (including Gibbs and Metropolis algorithms), with respect to the rate of convergence and the difficulties of dependent data sampling, is also presented in this report. |

Résumé :
Pour délimiter un masque urbain précis à partir d'une image satellitaire la seule information du niveau de gris est insuffisante. Laplupart des méthodes font donc appel à une analyse de la texture de l'image. Nous nous sommes placés dans ce cadre. Dans une première étape, nous avons défini un nouveau paramètre de texture à partir d'un modèle markovien gaussien. Nous obtenons ce nouveau paramètre en calculant la variance conditionnelle de l'image dans huit directions. Ainsi, nous éliminons la mauvaise classification d'objets ayant une orientation privilégiée tels que les vignes et les serres par exemple. Dans une seconde étape, nous proposons un algorithme de emphfuzzy Cmeans modifié incluant un terme d'entropie et pour lequel le nombre de classes n'est pas fixé a priori. Cet algorithme nous permet d'obtenir une première classification de l'image. Enfin, nous régularisons l'image ainsi obtenue grâce à une modélisation par champs de Markov. Des résultats obtenus sur des simulations d'images SPOT5 fournies par le CNES sont présentés. |
Abstract :
Urban areas cannot be extracted from satellite images through only grey level information. Hence most methods analyze the texture of the image to discriminate between urban areas and non urban areas. We define a new texture parameter derived from a Markovian Gaussian model. This new parameter takes into account the variance of the image in eight directions- . Consequently it copes with the misclassification of objects with a privileged orientation like vineyards or greenhouses for instance. Afterwards we develop a modified fuzzy Cmeans algorithm including an entropy term. The advantage of such an algorithm is that the number of classes does not need to be known a priori. By applying this modified fuzzy Cmeans algorithm on the parameter image we obtain a first classification. Finally we regularize the segmented image by using a Markov random field modelling. Some results on SPOT5 simulated images are presented. These images are provided by the CNES (French Space Agency). |
