  • inoculation by skin or eyes, via contaminants on ground etc

    Injection routes may have shorter incubation period: first cases could all have had such a non-oral infection route

• susceptibility to infection varies

  • genetics definitely important.
  • environmental factors could also affect susceptibility (e.g. exposure to organophosphates)
