CFP: Workshop on Satellite-based Information Services

Hi, you are invited to submit your paper for the workshop.

I too plan to write up the design of my UDLR work and submit,
a bit more detail than my talk in Montreal IETF.

                       First International Workshop on
               Satellite-based Information Services (WOSBIS)

                              November 13, 1996

Rye Hilton, Rye, New York, USA (Immediately following ACM MobiCom'96)

Sponsored by Hughes Research Laboratories and ACM Sigmobile (pending).

                               CALL FOR PAPERS
                   ---------------------------------------

Satellite communication will play an increasingly important role in our
future information-based society. This trend as evidenced by the large
number of systems planned or in operation (e.g. GPS, IRIDIUM, DIRECPC (TM),
SPACEWAY).

The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for exploratory
research contributions on satellite applications and services. The services
are characterized by direct or global broadcast capabilities of LEO, GEO and
MEO satellites, high and possibly asymmetric bandwidth, low setup costs.
Applications of such services are often real-time, and they include
telemedicine, education, public information services, entertainment, digital
battlefield, emergency and disaster response.

Topics of contributed papers will include, but are not limited to:

   * Applications using satellite services
   * Software and architectures for satellite-to-terrestrial communication
   * Data management in satellite applications
   * Distributed computing using satellite communication
   * Satellite network protocols
   * Mobile computing and tracking
   * Management and security of satellite networks
   * Internetworking with wireline/wireless networks
   * WWW access and cache through satellites
   * Asymmetric communication services
   * Transmission of Multimedia Data to/from satellites
   * Reliability and scalability in satellite applications
   * Software for satellite switch control
   * Satellite-based file systems
   * Inter-satellite communication
   * Middleware for satellite-based information services development.

The setting of the workshop will be informal, and will encourage discussion
and interaction. We solicit the submission of research papers, position
papers, experience papers, and panel proposals. An informal proceedings will
be published.
