Questions

These questions were raised during the BoF session. I put them here
in raw form in order to lauch the discussion on these topics.
Please feel free to respond/comment/ask more questions...

1) why not send the RIP packets in multicast to multiple feeds in case you
have many of them serving the same subnet. This will be considered in the
protocol design for the INRIA solution. Hughes solution already send routing
packets in multicast to the feeds.

2) why dont' have specific notification protocol to notify the feeds
of your existance without having to run RIP on the subnet router?

3) why don't run routing protocol even in the case of basic access?

Question 2 aims at reducing the complexity in the case of subnet access,
while question 3 aims at more flexibility.

4) This problem is basic problem of multi-homed hosts: in the
basic access case, BGP route announcement can be used, with a "multi-homed"
   set-top box.

5) This is a very low cost solution (#200USD, comparing to VSAT 20,000 USD).
It will provide high speed access to large public, e.g. the MERCI project
   partners.

6) Why not look at Ipsec authentication header (for all 3 cases, RIP, OSPF,
DVMRP), instead of using protocol level authentication in solution 1. This
   will be considered

7) How to to addressing in the subnet access mode:
        a) dual addressing for all stations in the subnet.
        b) 1 BGP entry. (autonomous system for satellite).
   Both approaches will be investiageted.

8) What about PIM DM? Apply 2 ways metrics? This will be difficult. But will
   be investigated.

9) why not apply the 2 ways metrics to RIP also. For long term.

10) What about QoS routing? Should be transparent.

11) There were some concern about the deployment of the solutions.
Christian Huitema proposed two types of solutions:
    a) short term solutions DVMRP + RIP-like protocol
    b) long term solutions more radical (2 ways metrics).

12) why not only BGP. why i would like run IGP with the feed?
use BGP and not RIP, and OSPF.
    c) BGP + DVMRP + RIP-like protocol solution will be investigated.
