[moca] methodology questions

I am new to this forum and the concepts discussed
here, so hello all. 
 I am implementing a system for process modelling in
Java that will be a VPL based on ideas from the
pi-calculus theory. I am interested to know different
ways people have implemented messaging between active
objects, and any patterns that may be applied to the
problem. This is more a question of object oriented
design methodologies than a mathematical question.
