Description:
At UCL we intend to experiment with a video distribution protocol that integrates the capabilities of the video coding scheme with the congestion and flow control schemes. State of the art techniques for communication code optimizations will be hand applied to the implementation to experimentally determine the likely speed-ups when a compiler is used, where constraints are variable and unknown.

From experiments and study, we hope to build a ``recipe book'' of engineering techniques for optimizing protocol implementations, with necessary conditions and constraints on their usage, to feed forward into the code generation phase of the compiler design. The optimizations would be based on Integrated Loop Processing and other generic engineering techniques, drawn from work by Van Jacobson on optimizing TCP/IP, work at Arizona on the x-kernel, and any other high performance communications code that can be found. SICS will provide their early ILP implementations [4] [13] for further studies.
