Sanju Ahuja
Postdoctoral Researcher, Inria
I am a postdoctoral researcher in the PRIVATICS team at the Inria Centre at Université Côte d'Azur. I have a PhD in Design and a Bachelor's in Engineering.
I currently work in the domain of online privacy. Through interdisciplinary collaborations with scholars from computer science, design and law, my main goal is to advance on methodologies and frameworks that can inform legal instruments for user protection in the digital world. My research focuses on two main themes:
Dark patterns:Â My interests lie in the identification of emerging dark patterns in online privacy, and an assessment of how they impact user autonomy and control over their personal data. At present, we are working on developing methodologies that can help map dark patterns to legal requirements for online platforms, intended to protect users from deceptive, manipulative and coercive design practices on the web.
Usability: I also work on usability of privacy interfaces, which is one of the central design and legal considerations for users to provide valid consent for the collection and processing of their personal data. Our work aims to assess the extent to which websites adopt usable design principles that can facilitate users to exercise their legal rights over their personal data.
