IMAGING in VARIANT CJD

• CT and SPECT are normal, or show non-specific changes

• MR: early case reports by Chazot et al (1996) and Howard (1996) described thalamic hyperintensity

• Analysis of MR reports in first 14 UK cases of vCJD (Zeidler et al 1997) suggested that only 2/14 were abnormal

• More detailed study with blinding and with controls set up
