Sophia Antipolis associations help you feel welcome
Here are some addresses for local informations to make your visit more convenient (scientist see also useful links from the Kastler Foundation)
If your look for any help into being integrated into french way of doing, or into finding a contact with an english speaking person to answer your problem, the right association is Adapt in France : you can meet Sylvie Kermin Coiffier, every Thursday10h00-/13h00 at Sophia (see the link). Adapt in France is an association, one year fee is 22 euros for students, 45 for a single, 76 for a double.
Another association located in Sophia is l'accueil ville de France
they propose contacts and a lot of different activites including french
conversation groups for foreigners. The membership fee is is valid
from September to August : 25 € for one member, 40 € for a couple or
family. Find their activities program for the year on their www site.
The Association des Habitants du Parc de Sophia Antipolis ( A.H.P.S.A.) is focused on Art, Culture et Loisirs and also organize french foreign language lessons : Garbejaire, 1 place de Provence, 06560 Valbonne (Téléphone : 04 92 96 04 91)
You can also try to learn French within a ... theater
group, la compagnie "la luciole" offers bi-lingual workshops
(english for french, french for expatriats) to let you improve the two
languages. (contact is : 04 93 12 99 15, compagnielaluciole@free.fr)
There is also a freeware “Phonetique” site aimed at learners of
French as a foreign language.
Don't forget that you can use English around
Sophia.
It is YOUR responsability to contact them. If you need a financial
support for these small amounts as a PhD student your Doctoral
School (e.g. EDSTIC) may help you.

language learning policy (priority is given to beginners).

In Nice, there is an 'Alliance
francaise'antenna , which is a more than one hundred years
association involved into spreading french language and culture all
around the world. They provide french courses starting all the year
long.
