Label Space Reduction in GMPLS Networks

Label switching architectures rely on tag based forwarding in order to route packets from their source to their destination. In these architectures, packets are sent through pre-computed logical connections, established based on Traffic Engineering metrics to provide high provisioning, quality of service and resource management.

The Label Space Reduction problem consists on the optimal use of the label space of a specific label switching architecture. This talk focuses on All-Optical Label Switching architecture, since the cost of this architecture linearly increases according to the size of the label space.

Digging more into the properties of the problem rather than its technical considerations, this talk explains the general problem, its motivations and it also gives a brief state of the art in proposed solutions.
