- RESUME/ABSTRACT : a number of fictitious
domain methods have been introduced and investigated since the
beginning of the 60th. Among them are the algorithms based on the
perturbation techniques and finite element norm preserving extension
theorems. In this talk a new fictitious domain method based on the
distributed Lagrange multipliers will be presented. This method
results in iterative algorithms for the solution of elliptic finite
element systems which have the optimal order of the arithmetical
complexity. Connection with the well known fictitious domain methods
as well as applications to fluid flow simulation will be discussed.
