C'est quoi MICE?

MICE stands for "Multimedia Conferencing in Europe", and is a Esprit financed research project investigating feasability of videoconferencing, and trying to locate problem areas. (For further information, please contact the MICE NSC:s. Since they are not up and running yet, you may contact me in the mean time, and I'll forward your request to the appropriate people. You could however try the URL http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/mice/mice-nsc/index.html for the MICE-NSC England.) MICE is using multicasting tools developed by others, and those currently used are 'sd', 'vat', 'ivs', 'wb' and occasionally 'nv'. They all run on the MBone. (By MICE tools, we of course don't mean that we wrote them, but rather that we are using them. This is only a convenience term for us.) The MICE project has decided to set up MICE National Support Centers, whose mission is to promote the use of the MICE tools and video conferences. These centers are national, and should promote MICE tools within that country. The MICE NSCs will also help setting up new NSCs, provided there is funding from within that country.
