Several reasons make the design of an architectural framework for
integrated implementation based on ALF/ILP concepts now both
feasible and attractive. The rationale of the project is based on
the following:
- New applications, such as multimedia with shared work space,
have stringent performance and service
requirements. Many implementation of communication protocols do not
meet the performance requirements.
- The increase of processor speeds and the discrepancy
between processor and memory performance is pushing toward the
integration of data manipulation operations. Performance enhancements
to the ASN.1 encoding facilitate
the problem of the implementation of a presentation filter [9].
- the architecture that will be developed
within this project will facilitate more efficient implementation for
a given functionality and automatically generate the communication
subsystem for a specific distributed application.
- There is a need of formal description techniques
in order to capture the
need of applications and to validate the
generated communication software.
