FORSIMS - Forest simulation

Fabien Campillo, Nicolas Desassis and Abdelilah Dkhissi

In the context of the INRIA Collaborative research initiatives MICR, two software tools have been developed. They do not pretend to simulate realistic forest ecosystems, they aim at illustrating the simulation of spatiotemporal Markovian models of very simple terrestrial population dynamics.

The proposed models are individual-based models (IBM) where each individual in the population is explicitly represented in the model as well as each mechanisms acting on each individual tree.

This work aims at developing individual-based Markovian models of forest dynamics with competition for the access to nutrients or light. We propose models derived from the work of Sylvie Méléard and co-authors. The model combines pure jump mechanisms as birth/dissemination, natural death (natural and by competition) together with a continuous mechanism of growth [see the slides presented at XXIVth International Biometric Conference in University College Dublin — July 13th to 18th 2008].

Matlab package

Fabien Campillo and Nicolas Desassis.

Takes into account natural death, death by competition, birth/dissemination and growth [download]

Java applet [for the simplified model]

forsims

Takes into account natural death, death by competition, birth/dissemination (no growth).

It is developed in java version 1.6 and version 1.5.

This version is verry beta (still contains some bugs)...
