Abstract:
We model short TCP transfers sharing a single bottleneck link. Our model consists of three parts. In the first part of the model we use the fixed point approach to calculate the packet loss probability in the bottleneck link. In the second part, using the fluid model approach and conditioning on the number of loss instants, we calculate the average transfer time of the TCP flows as a function of the packet loss probability and the parameters of the TCP protocol. Finally, in the third part we apply the M/G/inf model to obtain the distribution of the number of active sessions. All analytical results are confirmed by NS simulations.
