Current Position

Isabelle Mirbel is associate professor in computer science at Université Côte d’Azur within the I3S research laboratory. Her research interests are in the fields of information systems engineering, method engineering and requirements engineering.

From 2012 to 2018, she was vice-dean of the Faculty of Sciences.

From 2016 to 2019, she was coordinating the implementation of competency-based education within the Faculty of Sciences and the different faculties of Université Côte d’Azur.

From 2017 to 2019, she was also in charge of the “Sciences à la Carte” project, in conjunction with the Thematic Digital Universities (TDUs) UNISCIEL (National Basic Sciences University), which aims to develop online digital resources and more specifically self-positioning tests to facilitate the orientation of undergraduate students.

She is currently at the head of the L@UCA undergraduate education innovation program (NCU PIA3). She is more specifically involved in teaching and learning change dynamic as well as competency based curriculum development.

The current french Bachelor's Degree teaching model is a traditional one: it relies essentially upon disciplinary teaching occurring in a transmissive mode. One main challenge in higher education consists in transforming teaching and learning in order to face the diversification of the audiences as well as the issue of reconciling studies with other life projects. It compiled us to redesign curriculum and teaching strategies. It is the main goal of the L@UCA project to drive and support this change dynamic. Therefore three main axes have been identified:

1- Improving "active orientation towards a -3/+3 perspective" by (i) reinforcing relationships between high school and University, (ii) better supporting students in choosing more actively their university curriculum and providing them with better knowledge about contents, objectives and goals of the courses to do so, and (iii) reinforcing active orientation during the Bachelor's degree preparation.

2- Offering more open and flexible curriculum by moving from traditional Bachelor's Degree programs to modular and student-centered ones. In particular, flexibility will be further increased by allowing students to prepare not only specialized degrees, but also general and cross-disciplinary ones. In addition, students will be able to build their own courses combination to better suit their personal projects. The content of the academic training will be redesigned accordingly.

3- Rethinking teaching and learning, not only in terms of content, but also in terms of strategies, by encouraging student involvement. This pedagogical transformation will require to widely train teachers and to adapt the learning environment to these new learning styles. This change dynamic is part of a biggest transformation aim shared with UCA JEDI IDEX and EUR DS4H. Students will be offered many possibilities for graduading with regards to studies duration, profiles as well as content and specialization.
