CALL FOR PAPERS Special Session on Performance Modeling, Monitoring, and Debugging Tools for Parallel and Distributed Computing and Networking 14th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing Systems - PDCS 2001 August 8 - 10, 2001 Radisson Hotel Richardson, Dallas, Texas, USA http://www.isca-hq.org/PDCS2001-call.htm (Submission Deadline: February 23, 2001) Brief Description: This Special Session is on performance modeling, monitoring, and debugging tools for parallel and distributed computing and networking. It is to be held in conjunction with the 14th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing Systems - PDCS 2001, August 8 - 11, 2001, at the Radisson Hotel Richardson, Dallas, Texas, USA. The session's intent is to bring together scientists, engineers, practitioners, computer users, and students to share and exchange their experiences, ideas, and research results about all aspects of performance tools, and to discuss challenges encountered and potential solutions sought. Last year, we had three very successful sessions on Cluster Computing Performance Tools, Distributed Systems Performance Tools, and Profiling, Tuning, Debugging, and Networking Tools. For this year, and in addition to technical sessions, plans are underway to have tutorial sessions, demos, and panel discussions. This session will include invited presentations from experts from academia, industry, and government as well as contributed papers describing original work that address the current state of research in performance evaluation tools for parallel and distributed computing systems and networks and explore future directions in the field. Issues covered are related, but not limited to reporting, analyzing, estimating/ predicting, profiling, and managing of performance data for various types of platforms and for different applications. The papers solicited may introduce examples and case studies of recent tools developed for these systems. Relevant topics will be concerned with modeling, monitoring, debugging, steering, and simulation tools, tools for scalable and cluster computing systems, portable tools, performance visualization and interfaces design, collaborative environments performance tools, etc. Topics include, but are not limited to: Modeling Tools and Techniques Monitoring and Instrumentation Tools and Techniques Debugging and Tuning Tools and Techniques Prediction Tools and Techniques Performance Steering Techniques Tools Architectures Performance Interfaces and Visualization Standards in Performance Tools Tools Challenges and Applications Enabling Technologies and Performance Tools Tools in Collaborative Environments and Platforms Quality of Service and Performance Tools Performance Tools and Internet Computing Multimedia and Performance Tools Performance Tools for Ubiquitous and mobile Computing Systems Heterogeneity and Performance Tools Networks support and Requirements Networks Management Tools Submission of Papers: Electronic submissions are requested and will be accepted only in a PDF format as an attachment. The subject of the email must be "PDCS 2001-SS." Please submit a copy of your full manuscript (not to exceed 15 double-spaced pages including figures, tables, and references) to the session organizer. Consistent with standard practice, each submitted paper will receive a minimum of three peer reviews. Papers will be selected based on their originality, timeliness, significance, relevance, and clarity of presentation. Submission should also include, on the cover page, authors names, affiliations, addresses, fax and phone numbers, and email addresses. Please indicate the corresponding author. Include up to 5 keywords (topic area) and an abstract of no more than 250 words. On a separate sheet, include paper's title, author(s) names and affiliation, postal address, e-mail address, fax and phone numbers, address for correspondence, and the abstract. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper, if accepted. All accepted papers in the Special Session are expected to be presented and will be included in the conference proceedings. Outstanding papers will be considered for journal submission. Authors of the selected papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their presented papers for publication in a special issue of the International Journal of Computers and Their Applications and others.
