Installation

 

Before installing BASICOPT, be sure you have installed the SIS tool. SIS can be obtained from the UC Berkeley EECS FTP site ftp://ic.eecs.berkeley.edu/pub/Sis/, and all questions and comments regarding it can be addressed to sis@ic.eecs.berkeley.edu.

To fully configure and install BASICOPT on your system, follow the steps below:

• First, unpack your distribution. We provide source code in a tar file which was compressed using gzip. The code can be extracted into a directory unpackdir using

  mkdir unpackdir
  cd unpackdir
  gunzip -c basicopt.tar.gz | tar xvf -

  The source resides in a directory called basicopt-1.1 when unpacked. We call this the top level of the source directory, or srcdir. Under this directory, we have:

  • a Makefile and a README file;
  • the bin directory containing the basicopt Perl script and the remlatch binary file;
  • the lib directory containing the sis scripts for combinational optimization;
  • the examples directory containing some examples for testing;
  • the doc directory which contains the PostScript file of the user manual;
  • the man directory containing a manual page.

• Edit the following variables of the Makefile:
  • SIS
    Before installing Basicopt, be sure you have installed the SIS tool, and set the variable SIS to the name of the SIS tool binary file with its full path.
  • BASICOPT_DISTRIB_DIR
    This variable should be set to the root directory of the distribution (srcdir).
  • BIN_DIR
    Directory where to link basicopt and remlatch commands.
  • MAN1_DIR
    Directory where to link man pages (man1).
  • PERL
    By default, this variable is set to /usr/local/bin/perl. Change it if your Perl interpreter is installed elsewhere.

• You can now call type gmake. If it finishes successfully the installation, it will print the BASICOPT version.
