The model is roughly initialized (a) then registered with rigid (b) and affine (c) transformations. Hybrid deformations (d) then take care of non-rigid shape variations. A textured view (e) clearly shows that the model preserved its geometric properties (eyes vertices deformed toward the eyes...). This wouls not have been the case in the local deformations framework.
