Collision detection & Rendering process
Still tool & OGL Orthographic camera
Moving tool & OGL Perspective camera
Notes:
This presentation is organised as follow :
First of all, we describe what our scenes are, and which collisions we want to detect.
Then, we’ll shortly describe previous work on collision detection and on profiting from graphics hardware to perform other tasks than rendering.
After that, we’ll speak about the collision detection process, and we’ll make an analogy with the rendering process.
We’ll then describe the OpenGL camera abstraction and show how an orthographic viewing volume can be used to represent a still tool, and how a perspective camera viewing volume can fit the volume described by a moving tool.
Finally, we’ll present some results and a performance comparison with a well known method.
