Current sessions
The 2010 session of engineer meetings that gathers all types of engineer of the center on a monthly basis starts in January with a new formula.
Structure
Each meeting will have the following structure.
- 1 engineer
- Overall presentation - 5'
- Technical presentation - 15'
- Demonstration - 10'
- 1 engineer
- Overall presentation - 5'
- Technical presentation - 15'
- Demonstration - 10'
- Discussion and drinks
Since french is not the mother tongue of all engineers, english is the favorite choice for your presentation (at least for the slides).
The overall presentation is meant to introduce the ADT in which the work occurs, in terms of scientific context, motivations and collaborations. A good combination of slides for this exercise is domain, context, problem, approach. At the end of these five minutes, the audience should have understood the goals of the ADT.
The technical side will focus on the work of the engineer. It should present what has been done so far in order to answer the questions presented in the previous presentation. Coding methods, chosen tools and languages as well as existing material (applications or libraries) will be presented in introduction. Then, previous, current and prospective productions of the engineer have to be presented in great details.
Last but not least, a demonstration (live or video based) will help people understand the achieved work.
The "discussion and drinks" part uses to be at the initiative of the two engineers that have performed the presentations.
The presentation is to be prepared with the referee.

| Date | Speaker | Team | Summary | Referee |
| 20/01/2010 | Erik Pernod | Asclepios | SOFA (Simulation Open Framework Architecture) is currently developed by 3 INRIA teams: Alcove, Evasion and Asclepios. It is mostly intended for the research community to help develop newer algorithms, but can also be used as an efficient prototyping tool.
In this presentation I will first give a general overview of the project and the framework. I will dwell upon the concept of XML scene graph used to prototype simulations, as it is a key of the framework. Then I will show some of my contributions and conclude with quick demonstrations. | Julien Wintz |
| Jean-Christophe Lombardo |
| 24/02/2010 | Florin Alexandre Bratu | Oasis | The CPER Paca Grid is a computational grid which targets users from the PACA region. The Grid is managed using the Pro Active Parallel Suite, and more specifically the Pro Active Scheduler.
In this presentation, I will give a general overview of the CPER Paca Grid project and its goals. Then I will talk about the architectural decisions which were made in order to fulfill these goals. I will present the technical challenges which were encountered while developing the platform, and the solutions that I have found for these problems. The presentation will finish with a demonstration which will show how to use the CPER Paca Grid in order to execute computationally intensive jobs. | Nicolas Niclausse |
| 24/02/2010 | Bastien Sauvan | Oasis | The Galaxy ADT aims at providing an open SOA platform, enabling agility using dynamic architectures. Galaxy covers a large scope of functionalities, from design tooling to adaptable and extensible runtime, offering monitoring and management advanced functions. This ADT provides an integrated environment by assembling and leveraging INRIA's technologies such as Pro Active / GCM which is a Java middleware implementing the GCM (Grid Component Model, an extension for the grid of the Fractal component model). Within this context, the OASIS team is in charge of integrating Pro Active / GCM into the Galaxy platform in order to enable use of services that have significant performance needs. | Thierry Parmentelat |
| 24/03/2010 | Stephane Tayeb | Geometrica | CGAL-Mesh is a two-year technological development action. Building upon components from the Computational Geometry Algorithm Library (CGAL), we intend to implement an open platform for mesh generation of 3D domains and 3D multi-domains. Beside the openness of the platform, the main strength of our approach to mesh generation lies into the certification of the output mesh properties and the robustness of the algorithms, which translates into software quality insurance for the end user. We primarily target applications which involve data acquired from the physical world: geology, medicine, 3D cartography and reverse engineering.
In this talk, I will briefly introduce CGAL and mesh generation algorithms, then focus on our mesh generation algorithm implementation. The last part of the talk will be an interactive demonstration. | Nicolas Chleq |
| 24/03/2010 | Tom Hutchinson | Marelle | Coq is an interactive theorem prover developed mainly in France. As the name implies, It was designed to be used interactively. However, users often want to utilize existing automatic tools (such as SAT solvers) alongside Coq. In this presentation, I will describe my work on providing an interface for Coq to communicate with external programs. Previously, several developments have used Coq alongside other tools. However, they were hampered by having to implement their own communication strategies. The purpose of this ADT is to provide a standard communication protocol using XML. I will discuss design considerations and implementation issues encountered. | Mathieu Lacage |
| 19/05/2010 | Thibaud Kloczko | Opale | Num3sis code aims at becoming a generic platform enabling numerical simulation in many various fields, eg. fluid mechanics, electromagnetism, structural mechanics, acoustic, plasma physics... In order to achieve this task, refactorization of the code and generalization of concepts common to the target fields are required. The present ADT follows twofold objectives, namely the design of a modular architecture using as basis the DREAM dtk framework, and the aggregation of a developer community to
share cross-field functionalities. This talk presents the new architecture of the platform and a demonstration case is outlined. | Jean-Christophe Lombardo |
| 19/05/2010 | Guillaume Aubertin | Coprin | Data acquisition and control systems in robotics using Labview - To complete works in robotics, the COPRIN team needs data acquisition and control systems. The Labview environment aims to provide fully and complete work processes with combined hardware, software framework and a graphical Language. The aim of the ADT is to evaluate and develop a system that can be modular and easily used by the researchers without some previous work from an engineer. The software framework has to be completed to meet the robotic systems requirements, with basic functions (digital and analog signal acquisition, waveform generation, etc...) but also complex control-command solutions (PID controllers). | Erwan Demairy |
| 30/06/2010 | Tristan Cabel | Nachos | High order discontinuous Galerkin methods on hybrid CPU/GPU parallel architectures.
MAXW3D-DGTD is a numerical simulation software for electromagnetic waves propagation made by the team NACHOS in fortran 77 with MPI. The main goal of the ADT is to adapt this code to exploit the new capabilities of the up-to-date hybrid CPU/GPU architectures. Indeed, thanks to videogames industry GPUs power has increased exponentially to more than 1 TFLOPS making them perfect tools for scientific computing. We choose to use CUDA which is the NVIDIA API to program the GPU and we kept MPI for nodes communication. | Nicolas Niclausse |
| 30/06/2010 | Sylvain Prigent | Ariana | Development of an image processing software for skin analysis
In this PhD work, we use multi-spectral images for the analysis of the skin and then determinate diseases severity. The developed software MAD will be transferred to a pharmaceutical company by the end of the PhD. In this presentation, I will first explain the general scheme of the image processing. Then I’ll talk about the chosen structure for the software. As the processing method evolve, we consider a plug in like structure. In fact, once the processing scheme change an image processing step has to be easy to add in the treatment chain. For development conveniences, the general software architecture is in Matlab and the processing functions in c/c++. I’ll end my presentation with a quick demo of the current version of MAD. | Erwan Demairy |
