Both your problems probably come from the fact that centaur2.0
runs on SGI IRIX 4.x and from your message you've got IRIX 5.3.

It is surprising that the system starts up at all!!  Usually the 
OS change gives problems with the graphical interface, which may
well explain the problems with the scrollbars in certain cases
(by the way, we've never seen this problem before) and with the 
interprocess communication (the sockets implementation) which is
used in the connection to the parsers.


But never fear, we will look into this [the good news], 
but not before tomorrow [the bad news].
