The size of your Centaur is ~22Megs. It is a hudge system, and uses
most of your 24Megs memory.

But it seems to me that your are cpu-bounded. Are your Typol programs
compiled in debug mode? (grep pre_action *.pg will show you the files
compiled in debug mode). If not, may be we can discuss directly (reply
to thierry.despeyroux@sophia.inria.fr rather than to the mailing list)
to find out where is the problem.
