Status

I have perfomed my Phd Thesis in Control Theory applied to Positive systems control, works applying to the control of badly modelled biological processes, within the COMORE research team and under the supervision of Drs Jean-Luc Gouzé et Olivier Bernard. I have defended my PhD in May 2004 and obtained the Doctor's Degree from the Université de Nice Sophia Antipolis (UNSA) in Control theory. From September 2003 to September 2004, I have been a lecturer in Mathematics at the Université de Nice Sophia Antipolis (UNSA).

Research Activities

My PhD thesis focus on problems related to the control of positive systems of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Biological models, that aim at describing the evolution of positive quantities, do belong to this class of systems. These models often include some parts, related to the considered phenomenon's biology, which have unknown analytical expressions but are known in a qualitative manner. In this thesis, I propose to use some of these qualitative properties together with a control law, based on the measurement of the uncertain part, in order to globally stabilize any trajectory towards a single equilibrium.

A brief state of the art on positive systems begins the thesis. I introduce then a control law, able to ensure the global stabilization of the considered class of nonlinear positive dynamical systems. The introduction of an adaptive part enhance the proposed approach, so that the control law is able to deal with some parameter uncertainties.

I apply these results to some biological models: fishery magement model, bioreactors exploiting microorganisms... One of the main applications concerns cascade bioreactions occuring in bioreactors. Some experimental tests on an anaerobic digester plant (an effcient but multi-stable waste water treatment plant) of the proposed control strategy, validate the introduced theory.
